Re: Taurus Fan Installation I would be worried with that tight a clearance that the engine will strike it. GSequoia Everyone says I'm a jerk.

Re: Taurus Fan Installation Because most e-fans are already shrouded you can consider making a flat panel to mount the e-fan to which allows 2 additional things; it mounts the assembly to the radiator and enables the air to flow through the shoud.
Find all posts by muddyrocks. Re: Taurus Fan Installation i did like on gojeeps site- mounted the taurus fan vertically with the excess hanging below the radiator and then putting a trans cooler there. That pretty much covers it for parts, you can figure out what tools you need as you go.
Step one: Remove you clutch fan. There is already a how to on this, so I'll skip to step two. Step two: Drill four small holes in the fan shroud or use the existing holes. There should be a hole at each corner. Cut four pieces of metal strapping about inches long, and bolt the strapping to the fan shroud. Step three: Place the fan against the radiator and position it as close the center as possible.
Make sure that the water pump pulley isn't going to touch the fan motor, and the wiring harness is facing up. Bolt the other ends of the strapping to the radiator using the holes in the top and bottom of the radiator. Make sure the fan is tight and secure against the radiator. Trim off any excess strapping. It should look something like this. Step four: find a good location under the hood, and mount your solenoids.
I mounted mine to the plastic right in front of the hood latch. Step five: Wiring the solenoids, to the fan. The fan has two speeds, so one solenoid will control the low speed, and one will control the high speed. First you will need to label the wires on the fan harness. Thiis is the 2-speed high outut fan known on the web in offroad and hot rod forums as the "Taurus Fan. Its roughly This is a very nice relay pack made by Dave at Hollister Road here in Houston.
It uses Waytek hi-temp heavy gauge wire and has two relay circuits, one for each fan speed. The relays are powered from the battery lug on the starter. I have only temporarily mounted the fan. If it works the challenge will be to fab up a decent mounting system. The fan blows like a friggin' hurricane, you could grind meat with the high speed.
Unfortunately I had removed my oil pan this week and sent it back to Armando to resolve my rear main bolt clearance issue so I can't test the fan system yet. I'l post up the outcome once I get the pan back next week.

El, that sure looks real sweet, sorta like it was made to be there I'm waiting with baited breath for the road test and 20 minute deg outside temp idling marathon results. Thanks for all the pioneering. I see Dave's 2 hi-amp relays are rated for 40 amps continuous with a 60 amp peak load. I'm still half way tempted to build my own relay pack with 60 amps continuous and a 75 amp peak rated relays.
I'd also use number 8, vice number 10 as Dave did. Ya just can't have too big a wire Originally Posted by undy. El, that sure looks real sweet, sorta like it was made to be there Dave. The M8 fan fit my car beautifully.
If I am not mistaken they use the same motor. I like the aluminum surround treatment above Last edited by sharpe; at PM.. Reason: Need a new keyboard; this one can't spell! The photo above shows another view of the shroud trimmed to fit around the top support panel.
A piece of thin angle was used to support upper part using the bonnet catch rod and another threaded hole that was already there. All excess plastic was cut away above this so it did not interfere with the bonnet closing. The right photo can be expanded for a better view. The photos show the lower brackets both on the left, using the old shroud tab, and the right screwed into the underside of the frame.
